A rare Sunday/Monday non-conference series got underway featuring two fourth round draft picks of the New York Ranger. Center Noah Laba (2022 fourth) and his #20 Colorado College Tigers are in Minnesota to take on right wing Brody Lamb (2021 fourth) and his Minnesota Golden Gophers in is a key series for both teams.
The sophomore Laba is Colorado College’s first line center and after a bit of a slow start has come on as he recorded a goal and an assist as the Tigers upset the Gophers 6-4 in the first game of this series. Laba earned a secondary assist on the Tigers second goal and scored the Tigers sixth goal when he scored into the empty net with nine seconds remaining in regulation.
Brody Lamb scored Minnesota’s fourth goal with his coming at 17:43 of the third period and it at the time pulled Minnesota to within one at 5-4 before Laba scored his goal. For Colorado College the win was their third straight over a Top-Ten program.
With the game being in Minnesota the only highlight shown was Lamb’s goal which was his eighth of the season.

Laba was 1-1-2 on two shots with a +2 and he was 8-10 on his faceoffs. He improved to 8-6-14 in 16 games this season. The sophomore Lamb with his goal was 1-0-1 on two shots as he improved 8-6-14 as well.
The teams will play again in Minnesota on Monday.
Dylan Roobroeck had a two-assist game as his Oshawa Generals spanked the Saginaw Spirit 5-1 in OHL play. Roobroeck had the primary assist on the Generals first goal and the primary on their fifth goal.
The 6’7 center was 0-2-2 on zero shots with a +1 and was 8-15 on his faceoffs. The current leading scorer among Rangers prospects, Roobroeck is 11-22-33 in 36 games this season.
Maxim Barbashev was scoreless as his Rimouski Oceanic edged the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 3-2 in QMJHL play. Barbashev was credited with two shots and a -1 along with one hit.

Jaroslav Chmelar did not play for his Providence Friars as they hosted Simon Fraser University in an exhibition game on Sunday. Chmelar underwent wrist surgery around January 4th and is expected to be out for up to six weeks
