Aspinall’s Three Assists Lead Firebirds

Nathan Aspinall (Flint Firebirds)
Happy post-Thanksgiving to everyone, only wish the Rangers would stop acting like a bunch of turkeys with their performances. The prospects have not exactly been much better over the last couple of weeks.

Offense has pretty much dried up after a great start to the season with it being more hit or miss as of late. Friday saw nine prospects in action with Nathan Aspinall of the Flint Firebirds having the best night.

It has not been a good start to the season for the Flint Firebirds of the OHL. The Firebirds have been under the 500 mark for most of the season but have started to slowly turn things around in the last week.

On Friday, the Firebirds spanked the Niagara IceDogs 8-2 behind the game’s third star Aspinall who had career best three assist night in the win. Aspinall, who had missed a couple of weeks of playing time is starting to look like the player who was one of the top prospect scorers at the beginning of the season.

With his team already up 3-0 in the second period and on the power play, Aspinall earned his first assist when he fed Matthew Mania for a goal at 12:52 of the period. Point number two came when with the Firebirds on another power play, Aspinall picked up a secondary assist on the team’s fifth goal of the game at 17:35 in the second period.

In the third period with the score 6-2, Aspinall earned his third assist when he set up Matthew Wang for an even strength goal at 14:31 of the period. Aspinall was 0-3-3 on one shot and a +1 to raise his season totals to 7-10-17 on the season.

Perreault was 0-2-2 on two shots while teammate and fellow prospect defenseman Drew Fortescue was scoreless on two shots with a +2. Gabe Perreault remains the leading scorer for Boston College at 6-14-20 which ties him for fifth in the NCAA and second among all Rangers prospects.

Brody Lamb had the primary assist on the only goal his fourth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers played to a 1-1 overtime tie with Alaska in non-conference action. Lamb who had missed Minnesota’s last game with a lower body injury returned to earn his sixth assist and 15th overall point.

The junior forward, Lamb got the first line right wing spot for this game as he was second on the Gophers with four shots on goal.
