Saturday night was just the latest in lackluster performances from the New York Ranger prospects. Even more frustrating was that the only offense Saturday came in games where the prospect’s team lost as the rest of the prospects didn’t produce.
One thing is for certain there will be some shaking out in the weekly poll on Monday as the only top team not to lose this weekend was the team that was idle (Michigan State). Thanks to this week, there is nobody left that is undefeated and that is a good thing as the NCAA now looks wide open.
Noah Laba didn’t score but had a much better night as his eighth-ranked Colorado College Tigers (9-2-1 NCHC 1-1-3-1) needed overtime before earning a 1-0 win over 10th-ranked St. Cloud State in NCHC play to earn a split of their weekend series.
Laba was credited with four shots and was 9-4 on his faceoffs. That was more like the Laba we have been wanting to see but his injury got in the way.
Ty Henricks was scoreless as his ninth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos (8-1-1 NCHC 4-0-1-1) defeated Minnesota-Duluth 4-1 in NCHC play. Henricks was credited with one shot as his Broncos stretched their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1).

Western Michigan is in first place in the NCHA conference.
E. J. Emery was scoreless as his 14th-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks (7-6 NCHC 2-2) defeated Robert Morris 1-0 to earn a sweep of their non-conference series. Emery was credited with one shot with a +1 and a minor for holding in this one.
Nathan Aspinall scored his first goal in six games, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his Flint Firebirds (9-13-1-0) from dropping a 3-2 decision to the Barrie Colts in OHL play. Aspinall scored Flint’s second goal when he snapped a shot off the post and went in for his seventh goal of the season.
Aspinall improved to 7-7-13 on the season.
Raoul Boilard had an assist, but his Bair-Comeau Drakkar (15-8-1-1) lost to the Moncton Wildcats 5-3 in QMJHL play. Boilard earned the primary assist on Drakkar’s first goal, a power play which cut the Wildcats lead to 3-1 at the time.
Boilard with the 0-1-1 was a -1 with a cross-checking minor and was 9-14 on his faceoffs. Boilard remains the Rangers prospect leading scorer with a 5-16-21.
Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue were held scoreless as their third-ranked Boston College Eagles (9-3 Hockey East 3-2-1-0) lost to Northeastern 4-2 in Hockey East play. Fortescue was credited with three shots while Perreault had two shots but was a -3 for the game
Did Not Play
Hank Kempf was not in the lineup for his seventh-ranked Cornell Big Red. No reason given why he missed the game.
Brody Lamb was not listed in the box score for his fourth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers. Again, no reason given but Lamb is the leading goal scorer for his team, for the Rangers prospects and entered the game as the second leading goal scorer in the NCAA.
