Perreault’s Three Assists Lead #1 Boston College Win

Gabe Perreault (Boston College)
Ten of the eleven New York Rangers prospects playing in North America were in action on Friday night, but the results were not pretty. Just one goal and five assists were all the prospects had to show for their night.

How many different ways can one describe the matchup between top-ranked Boston College and ninth-ranked Boston University? Start with a combined nine members played on Team USA that won gold at the World Under-20 Championships, those same nine were also teammates at the USNTDP team.

It was also the battle for first place in the Hockey East conference as Boston University entered the contest as the conference leader holding a two-point edge in the standings. At the end of the day, it was Boston College rallying from down 2-1 after the first period to earn a 6-2 win and first place in the conference.

And it was Gabe Perreault who had the third three-point performance of the season as he had two primary and one secondary assist for the game. It started in the second period when Perreault set up Teddy Stiga for the game-tying goal at 5:30.

It was an even-strength goal, and it set the stage for his second assist as Perreault earned the secondary assist on what proved to be the game winning goal at 13:03. The goal came with the teams skating 4X4.

In the third, Perreault earned his third assist when he set up Ryan Leonard for Leonard’s third goal of the game, an empty net goal at 19:35 which was Boston College’s sixth goal of the game.

What to say about Perreault who in going 0-3-3 did not record a single shot for the game but wound up with a +3. The three assists improved Perreault to a team best 8-23-31 which now also makes Perreault the leading scorer among the Rangers prospects.

The 31 points is good for eighth overall in the NCAA while his 23 assists are second best in Division one. Teammate Drew Fortescue was scoreless on one shot with a team leading +4.

Rauol Boilard made it back-to-back games with a goal as his Baie-Comeau Drakkar spanked the Val-d’Or Foreurs 10-5 in QMJHL play. Boilard recorded his ninth goal of the season as part of a three goal first period then added a primary assist on Drakkar’s seventh goal of the game.

The Drakkar center in addition to his 1-1-2 was credited with three shots, a +1 and was 6-14 on his faceoffs. His two points improved his season totals to 9-20-29 which is good for third among the Rangers prospects.

Ty Henricks was scoreless as his fourth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos had no trouble with Miami (Ohio) winning 8-3 in NCHC action. Henricks was credited with two shots for the game.

Hank Kempf was scoreless as his Cornell Big Red defeated Zakary Karpa’s Harvard Crimson 4-1 in ECAC action. Kempf playing second pair left defense did not record a stat while we can’t confirm what happened, but Zakary Karpa only recorded two faceoff wins.

Karpa normally is Harvard’s top faceoff center so we are unsure what may have happened.

Noah Laba had a secondary assist on his 19th-ranked Colorado College Tiger’s only goal as they lost 4-1 to 11th-ranked Arizona State in NCHC play. Laba’s assist improved him to a team best 5-13-18 on a night where he was 0-1-1 on four shots and 8-4 on faceoffs.

Brody Lamb was scoreless as his third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers were spanked by second-ranked Michigan State 9-3. Lamb has gone six games without a goal or point.

Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Northern Michigan Wildcats saw their winning streak end after a 3-2 loss to Michigan Tech in CCHA play. Larsson was credited with one shot as the Wildcats saw their three-game winning streak stop.

Nathan Aspinall was scoreless as his Flint Firebirds were defeated 5-3 by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in OHL play. The only stat that Aspinall recorded was that he was a -4 on the night.

Covering New York Ranger prospects since 2004, I have covered every Ranger prospect drafted over that time. I was lucky enough to have been trained by former Boston Bruins GM Harry Sinden having completed the NHL GM and Scouting Course taught at Sports Management Worldwide as well as the late EJ McGuire who was the director of the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau and was the former coach of the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack
