Saturday was all about the prospect the Colorado College Tigers nicknamed the “Laba Lamp” as Noah Laba was really the only New York Rangers prospect to show up on Saturday. Most of the Ranger’s prospects were invisible with little to nothing to show for their efforts.
For most of the game between 19th-ranked Colorado College and 11th-ranked Arizona State, it looked as if Arizona State was going to pad its NCHC conference lead. After the Sun Devils had scored at 6:16 of the third period to take a 4-1 lead, the Tigers looked dead in the water.
But just eight seconds after Arizona State had scored, Noah Laba scored the second of his two goals to cut the lead to 4-2. It started a four-goal comeback that ended with a 5-4 Colorado College win.
Laba had gotten Colorado College on the scoreboard with a goal just 19 seconds into the third period which at the time cut Arizona State’s lead to 2-1. A total of seven goals were scored in the third, so many that the Colorado College Twitter feed didn’t have time to put up both Laba goals, so we give you a Prospect Park first.

The goal on the left side of the screen was the first goal Laba scored as he just went on the attack and took the puck right to the Arizona State goal and scored. The second goal was Laba winning a center ice faceoff, his teammates carrying the puck into the offensive zone and finding Laba in the high slot and he fired a one-timer in for the goal.
It was goals six and seven for Laba who has five goals in his last four games to improve his season totals to 7-13-20. It was part of a three shot, +2, and 13-5 faceoff win line for the junior center.
Neither Gabe Perreault nor Drew Fortescue scored as number one Boston College made it a two-game weekend sweep of ninth-ranked Boston University in Hockey East play. The two combined for one shot and a hooking minor.
Nathan Aspinall did not score but he did get into his second fight of the season as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Brampton Steelheads 5-3 in OHL play. Aspinall in addition to the fighting major was credited with just one shot for the contest.
Ty Henricks was scoreless as his fourth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos shutout Miami (Ohio) 2-0 in NCHC play. Henricks was credited with just one shot as his Broncos used their win and Arizona State loss to jump back into first place in the NCHC conference.
Western Michigan is 8-0-2-2 in NCHC play after winning their season’s best sixth straight game. Next up a road series against Noah Laba and Colorado College,
Rauol Boilard had a secondary assist as his Baie-Comeau Drakkar let a 5-3 lead slip away and dropped a 6-5 overtime decision to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in QMJHL play. Boilard was credited with one shot, a -1 and was 7-14 on his faceoffs as he improved to 9=21=30 on the season.
Hank Kempf was scoreless as his Cornell Big Red lost to Dartmouth 6-1 in ECAC play. Kempf only recorded a -1 and a minor penalty for interference.
Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Northern Michigan Wildcats were shutout 4-0 by Michigan Tech in CCHA play. Larsson was -1 with a minor penalty for cross-checking.
Brody Lamb was scoreless as his third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers played to a 3-3 overtime tie with second-ranked Michigan State in Big Ten play. Lamb did not record a single stat as his pointless streak is now at seven games.
