Aspinall Four Point Night Leads Firebirds

A very strange Friday night as only five New York Rangers prospects took to the ice with one more who missed playing for reasons unknown. Unlike last weekend there was more production out of this smaller group to the tune of 3-4-7.

The star of the night was the Flint Firebird forward Nathan Aspinall who was named the OHL Performer of the Night after going 2-2-4 +5 to help lead his Firebirds to a 7-2 win over the Guelph Storm. The Game’s First Star, Aspinall set new career highs in goals, assists, and points as he had his hand in the first four goals the Firebirds scored against the Storm.

For his first point, Aspinall carried the puck behind the Storm net where he was met by one of the Storm defenders. Aspinall would do a 360 and passed the puck to the right side of the Storm goal where teammate Evan Konyen was waiting and he beat the Storms goalie for a 1-0 lead at 18:45 of the first period. In the second period, Aspinall would score the first of his two goals when he was on the doorstep of the Storm goal when a rebound was right at his feet and he just put it into the Storm goal for a 2-0 Firebirds lead at 4:53 of the second period. Aspinall’s third point of the night was a secondary assist on the Firebird’s third goal at 8:16 which would turn out to be the eventual game-winning goal. The final point of the night for Aspinal came when he scored the Firebirds fourth goal of the night as the “right place, right time” as a bad bounce of the puck would wind up on his stick again right at the Storm goal. A career night for the Rangers 2024 fifth round pick as he goes 2-2-4 on two shots for a career best +5. The Firebirds left wing improved his season totals to a prospect leading 5-6-11 +7 in eleven games.
Raoul Boilard (Baie-Comeau Drakker)
Raoul Boilard had a two assist evening as his Baie-Comeau Drakkar had little trouble with the Charlottetown Islanders 5-2 in QMJHL play.Boilard recorded primary assists on first and fifth goals of the game as he was 0-2-2 on four shots with a +1, a tripping minor and he was 16-7 on his faceoffs. The assists improved Boilard to 2-9-11 -3 in twelve games. He has won 51.7% of his faceoffs so far this season.Brody Lamb is a prospect who is probaly the best pure sniper the Rangers have. And as this place keeps saying if only he was more consistent and there is a good reason why.Lamb recorded his second goal of the season as his fifth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers spanked St. Thomas 7-1 in non-conference action. Lamb’s goal came at 9:12 of the third period and was Minnesota’s sixth goal of the game.Watch the clip all the way through as you don’t see Lamb deflecting the puck past the St. Thomas goalie until the replay. And what is so nice about this goal is how subtle it truly is. Lamb was 1-0-1 on two shots with a +2 as he improves his season totals to 2-3-5 in five games.E.J. Emery was scoreless as his seventh-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks spanked third-ranked Boston University 7-2 in nonconference play. Emery was credited with one shot with a +2 and a roughing minor.Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Northern Michigan Wildcats lost 3-1 to Arizona State in nonconference play. Larsson was credited with one shot and was a -1.DID NOT PLAYNo word as to why Noah Laba missed his ninth-ranked Colorado College Tigers game with Alaska-Anchorage. The Tigers were coming off a bye week so either Laba is ill or he was injured during his team’s practice.NCAA college teams hide behind the US Hippa’s rules as why they do not disclose injury or illness information.
