The return from the holiday break has been really slow among the New York Ranger prospects as just six dressed for Friday’s game. Equally frustrating is the lack of production from the Rangers prospects.
Seriously just one goal from the six prospects who did play and that just is not acceptable.
He is second among the NCAA Division 1 skaters in goal scoring (13) and first overall in power play goals but Brody Lamb is going to force the Rangers to offer him an NHL Entry Entry draft contract if he keeps scoring like this.
Lamb’s power play goal at 1:57 of the second period would also prove to be the game-winning goal as his third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers improved to 16-3-2 after a 6-2 non-conference win over Mercyhurst on Friday night. Lamb’s best scoring chance was actually a first-period shorthanded scoring chance that the Mercyhurst goalie stopped.
In the second period with Minnesota already up 2-0 and on the power play, Lamb made it 3-0 with what is becoming his specialty this season. Lamb found a loose puck in the crease and beat everyone to it to put it in the Mercyhurst goal for a 3-0 lead.
It would prove to be Lamb’s second game-winner of the season as he has set a new career best in goals with his 13th. Lamb was 1-0-1 with a +1 on two shots as he improves to 13-7-20 on the season.
Ty Hendricks was scoreless on one shot as his fourth-ranked Western Michigan University Broncos had little trouble defeating Alaska-Anchorage 4-1 in non-conference play. Hendricks was used as the fourth-line left wing for the Broncos who improved to 14-4-1 on the season.
Hank Kempf was scoreless on one shot with one blocked shot as his 16th-ranked Cornell Big Red doubled up UMass-Amherst 4-2 in non-conference action. Cornell improved to 6-3-3 on the season.
Nathan Aspinall was scoreless on four shots as his Flint Firebirds spanked the Ottawa 67s 8-1. The win brought Flint’s record to 17-17-1-1 on the season.
Nathan Laba and his eighth- ranked Colorado College suffered an 5-1 upset loss to Augustana in non-conference play. Laba was credited with five shots with a -2 and was 12-6 on his faceoffs.
