This is the kind of night New York Ranger fans are going to like, as they got four goals from four different players and then added five assists for a pretty nice 4-5-9 evening from the prospects. The goals were works of art and these are the kind of offensive players the Rangers are going to need down the road.
Got to get Gabe Perreault’s first NCAA goal up before anything else as it is a work of art.
The freshman forward recorded both his first goal and his first assist as his third-ranked Boston College Eagles had little trouble defeated Rensselaer 6-1 to remain undefeated at 3-0. Perreault’s goal was an unassisted one as he scored at 11:20 of the second period to give Boston College a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, Perreault would add his first assist when he fed linemate Will Smith for the Eagles sixth goal. I liked his assist better than his goal because of the way Perreault followed the puck into the offensive zone and put the puck perfectly on his linemate’s stick. That is not a learned play, it was a offensive player’s kind of play.
Perreault was 1-1-2 +2 on three shots while teammate defenseman Drew Fortescue was scoreless on two shots and a -1.
Brody Lamb in just three games has already equaled his goal output from last season as Lamb’s fourth goal of the season was the only one his top-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers needed to defeat fifth-ranked North Dakota in non-conference play. Lamb also added a primary assist on Minnesota’s fourth goal as he improved to 4-2-6 after three games.
Lamb scored on a breakaway but watch the replay as Lamb almost loses the puck but stays with it to score the goal.
If you want even better news then Minnesota used Lamb as their second line center in this game as he went 6-9 on faceoffs. Lamb has been mostly a winger for most of his career and think about this one, this is the number one program in the USA and they are using Lamb as their second line center.
Boy does that help the Rangers pipeline greatly improve as he would give them a second top line center (after Noah Laba)
In another really good matchup, Jaroslav Chmelar was 1-1-2 as his 12th ranked Providence Friars defeated second-ranked University of Denver 4-3 in non-conference play. Chmelar scored the Friars second goal of the game when he finished off a great feed right in front of the net.
Chmelar also had a secondary assist on the game winning goal (Providence’s fourth) was 1-1-2 +1 on two shots and a minor penalty for tripping. The sophomore right wing has points in all four games that Providence has played as he leads the team in scoring with a 3-3-6.
Bryce McConnell-Barker got his Soo Greyhounds going with his third goal of the season as they had no problem with the Kingston Frontenacs winning 6-0 in OHL play. McConnell-Barker earned second star of the game honors after he scored the game’s first goal of the game as he used his size and strength to finish a broken play to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead at 3:41 of the second period.
The captain of the Greyhounds used his body to shield the puck from the Frontenacs defense before ggoing “short side” for the goal.
McConnell-Barker was 1-0-1 on three shots with a +1 and went 6-8 on faceoffs. He improved to 3-5-8 after 10 games.
Center Noah Laba set up the game-winning goal as his Colorado College Tigers defeated the Long Island University Sharks 4-2 in non-conference play. Laba was 0-1-1 on one shot with a +2 and was 6-7 on faceoffs.
Laba is 2-1-3 after two games as the Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season.
Forward Ty Henricks had a primary assist as his Muskegon Lumberjacks defeated USA Hockey NTDP 5-2 in USHL play. Henricks was credited with four shots earned his assist on the Lumberjacks fourth goal of the game.
The future member of the Western Michigan University Broncos is 2-2-4 after seven games.
Center Dylan Roobroeck was scoreless on one scoring chance as his Oshawa Generals lost to the Branford Bulldogs 5-1 in OHL play. Roobroeck was a -2 but was 6-2 on faceoffs.
Maxim Barbashev has a bit of a rough night going scoreless on just one shot as his Shawinigan Cataractes were spanked 8-4 by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in QMJHL play. Barbashev was a -3 with one hit and a high-sticking minor.
Defenseman Rasmus Larsson did not record anything as his Green Bay Gamblers were shutout 3-0 by the Fargo Force in USHL action. Larsson after a 1-3-4 start has gone without a point in his last six games.
Did Not Play
Hugo Ollas was the backup goalie for his Merrimack Warriors as they hosted and earned a 4-1 win over the Clarkson Golden Knights in non-conference play. Ollas will probably get the start on Sunday when the Warriors host St. Lawerence in non-conference play.
