Perreault And Fortescue Come Up Short in Beanpot Final

It was the second week of the Beanpot Tournament with four New York Rangers prospects once against seeing action. Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue were looking to win their first Beanpot championship taking on archrival Boston University.

Boston College came into the Beanpot tournament finals the winners of nine straight games. They had already won the Hockey East regular season series from Boston University 2-0, so they were the favorites in this one.

Despite Gabe Perreault’s 11th goal of the season, it was Boston University who won the Beanpot Finals 4-1. Do not let the score fool you, this one was a lot closer than the score says it was.

The difference was Boston University’s goalie Mikhail Yegorov who was playing in just his fifth college game as he held Boston College to one first period goal while stopping 43 shots from Boston College.

Perreault got Boston College going when he converted a feed from linemate Ryan Leonard for a wide-open goal just 6:13 into the contest. Can’t believe someone left Perreault all alone by himself.

But that was all the offense Boston College could manage as they lost in the Beanpot for the ninth straight year. Perreault with his 1-0-1 was credited with six shots and a -1 while Drew Fortescue was scoreless on three shots.

Perreault leads Boston College and the Rangers prospects in scoring with a 11-25-36 which is also good for sixth in the NCAAs.

Zakary Karpa was scoreless as his Harvard Crimson defeated Jackson Dorrington’s Northeastern Huskies 4-3 to grab third place in the Beanpot. Jackson Dorrington had a secondary assist on Northeastern’s first goal to improve his season totals to 2-10-12.

Covering New York Ranger prospects since 2004, I have covered every Ranger prospect drafted over that time. I was lucky enough to have been trained by former Boston Bruins GM Harry Sinden having completed the NHL GM and Scouting Course taught at Sports Management Worldwide as well as the late EJ McGuire who was the director of the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau and was the former coach of the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack
