
It was the awakening that we have been waiting to see happen this season as while eleven New York Rangers prospects took to the ice Friday night, one finally played as we have been hoping for. For the first time in over a month all of the Rangers North American prospects played and that is a good sign.
Noah Laba recorded his first NCAA hat trick as his 19th-ranked Colorado College Tigers spanked Minnesota-Duluth 7-2 in NCHC action. For Laba, this has been a season of struggles in large part due to an early season injury that killed his momentum.
Friday night, we finally got to see the Noah Laba we were expecting as he got his team on the scoreboard first by cashing in on a rebound for an even-strength goal that started Colorado College off and they never looked back. In the second period with his team already up 4-0, Laba recorded his second goal of the game when he put one over Minnesota-Duluth’s goalie for the 5-0 lead.
In the third period with the Tigers up 6-1, Laba got the hats flying when he cashed in on a Minnesota-Duluth turnover for the Tiger’s seventh goal of the game. Laba in addition to the 3-0-3 night came on six shots with a +2 while going 10-14 on his faceoffs.
The hat trick helps Laba remain Colorado College’s leading scorer at 5-12-17. Same two teams on Saturday night on a game televised on the Roots sports regional channel.
Gabe Perreault had two secondary assists as his second-ranked Boston College Screaming Eagles shut out fourth-ranked Providence College 3-0 in Hockey East action. Perreault’s assists came on Boston College’s first two goals of the game.
For Perreault the points were part of a 0-2-2 four shot +1 night as he improves to a team leading 7-19-26. Teammate Drew Fortescue was scoreless on just two shots.
Ty Henricks was scoreless as his fifth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos defeated E. J. Emery’s 16th-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks 3-2 in overtime in NCHC play. Henricks was credited with two shots and a -1 while Emery was scoreless on one shot with a -1 and three blocked shots.
Zakary Karpa had an assist as his Harvard Crimson defeated RPI 5-2 in ECAC play. Karpa got the primary assist on Harvard’s first goal of the game an even strength goal as Harvard raced out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back.
Karpas’ 0-1-1 was part of a one shot +2 performance as he was also 5-12 on his faceoffs.
Nathan Aspinall had an assist as his Flint Firebirds fell in the shootout to the Kitchener Rangers 4-3. Aspinall had the primary assist on Flint’s first goal as he did not record a shot but was a +1 and scored on his shootout chance.
For Aspinall the assist improved his season totals to a prospect best 11-18-29.
Brody Lamb was scoreless as his third-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated Notre Dame 5-2 in Big Ten play. Lamb was moved up to second line right wing was credited with one shot, a -1 and a minor penalty for interference.
Hank Kempf did not record a stat as his Cornell Big Red defeated Princeton 6-2 in ECAC play. Kempf was second pair left defense for his team.
Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Northern Michigan Wildcats defeated Bemidji State 4-1 in CCHA action. Larsson was credited with one shot as his team won for just the third time this season (3-19-1) despite being outshot 25-11.
Raoul Boilard returned to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar lineup as the Drakkar lost to the Val-d’Or Foreurs in QMJHL play 6-5. Boilard had missed nine games with an upper body injury was scoreless on no shots a -2, a minor for hooking and he was 10-6 on his faceoffs.
