Left wing Gabe Perreault extended his scoring streak to five straight games (1-7-8) as his newly crowned top-ranked Boston College Eagles opened Hockey East play with a 3-2 win over UMass-Lowell. Perreault set up the game’s first goal just 51 seconds into the contest when he fed Ryan Leonard for a goal and a 1-0 lead.
Perreault didn’t record any points in his first two games but has averaged 1.14 points per game in the last five. The first-year student forward was 0-1-1 +1 on two shots while teammate and fellow freshman Drew Fortescue was scoreless on zero shots and a -1
Defenseman Hank Kempf was scoreless as his 10th-ranked Cornell Big Red opened ECAC play with a 3-1 win over Yale. Kempf was credited with three shots and a +3 as Cornell improved to 3-0 (1-0 ECAC).
Right Wing Brody Lamb was scoreless as his sixth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers broke a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over 14th-ranked Minnesota-Duluth in non-conference play. Lamb was credited with two shots and a +1 as he has gone scoreless in his last four games.
Lamb was moved up to second line right wing for this contest.
Left Wing Maxim Barbashev had an assist but it was not enough to prevent his Shawinigan Cataractes from dropping their sixth-straight game 2-1 to the Quebec Remparts in QMJHL play. Barbashev’s assist was a secondary one as he was credit with three shots with a -1 and one hit.
The left winger improved his season totals to 2-7-9 after nine games.
Right Wing Jaroslav Chmelar was scoreless and stat-less as his ninth-ranked Providence Friars played to a 1-1 overtime tie with 16th-ranked University of New Hampshire in Hockey East play. Providence picked up the extra point by winning the shootout round 1-0 (four rounds).
Providence improves to 5-1-2 (1-0-2 Hockey East) while Chmelar remains Providence’s leading scorer at 4-5-9.
Center Zakary Karpa was scoreless as his 15th-ranked Harvard Crimson plaed to a 4-4 overtime tie with rival Princeton in ECAC play. Princeton gained the extra point in the standing by winning the shootout 2-1 (four rounds).
Karpa was credit with one shot while going 9-13 on his faceoffs. Harvard is winless with a 0-0-2 record.
Center Noah Laba had a rough night going scoreless as his College College Tigers opened NCHC play with a 6-1 loss to second-ranked University of Denver. Laba in addition to going scoreless on two shots was a -2 with three separate minor penalties and was 4-10 on faceoffs.
Defenseman Victor Mancini was scoreless as his Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks lost 5-2 to 11th-ranked Western Michigan University in the NCHC opener for both schools. Mancini was credited with one shot and was a -2 on the night.
Goalie Hugo Ollas stopped 20 out of 22 shots as his 20th-ranked Merrimack College Warriors fell 2-1 to the Maine Black Bears in Hockey East play. Ollas didn’t play that badly but just didn’t have much offense in this one.
Ollas surrendered one goal just 1:03 into the first period then a second at 10:44 of the second. Both were even-strength goals and Ollas blanked the Black Bears in the third period.
His team could not get onto the scoreboard until the final minute of the game and even then required a power-play with Ollas pulled for an extra attacker. Ollas falls to 1-2 on the season with a 2.38 goals against and a 0.905 save percentage.
Defenseman Rasmus Lawsson was scoreless as his Green Bay Gamblers earned a 5-4 shootout win over the Chicago Steel in USHL action. Lawsson was without a shot and a -1 as his pointless streak is now goalless streak is now 12 games and he has just one point in his last 10 games.
Forward Ty Henricks was scoreless on two shots as his Muskegon Lumberjacks rallied from down 2-0 to earn a 5-4 overtime win over the Des Moines Buccaneers in USHL play.
