Three New York Ranger Prospects saw action on Friday as one was seeing his team start the second round of the OHL playoffs while the other two were fighting for playoff seeding. We also got to see two other Ranger prospects earn end of the season honors and both were well deserved.

Dylan Roobroeck had a four-point night as his Oshawa Generals opened the second round of the OHL’s Eastern Conference playoffs by winning game one 4-3 over the Ottawa 67’s. The 6’7.5 center of the Generals earning points on all four General’s goals was career best playoff performance.

In the second period with his team trailing 1-0, Roobroeck would deflect a shot from the point past the Ottawa goalie to tie the game at 1-1 at the 6:50 mark of the second period. It was Roobroeck’s fourth goal of the playoffs.

In the third period, Roobroeck would earn his second point when he got the puck up ice to teammate Beckett Sennecke who fired a shot from the high slot and gave his team a 2-1 lead at 2:52. Ottawa would score to tie the game up at 2- just under four minutes lates.

Point three was a result of solid forechecking as Roobroeck stripped the puck from an Ottawa player behind the Ottawa goal. He then hit teammate Calum Ritchie with a pass right in front of the Ottawa goal and Ritchie scored to give the Generals a 3-2 lead 10:39.

The fourth point came when Roobroeck carried the puck into the Ottawa zone, and he found Ritchie once again for a goal to make it a 4-2 game at 12:56 of the third period. Ottawa would score to cut the lead to 4-3 but the Generals would hold on for the win.

By the numbers Roobroeck was 1-3-4 on two shots with a +3 and he was 7-5 on his faceoffs. The four-point effort earned Roobroeck the game’s second star as he improved to 4-7-11 which is fourth best in OHL playoff scoring.

He is eight in goals and ninth in assists as this impressive second half continues. If any prospect has earned the right to a Rangers Entry-Level Contract, it is Roobroeck whose play since January 1 has been outstanding.

The Generals have a 1-0 series lead and will be off Saturday before playing game two on Sunday in Oshawa.

In the USHL, it is their final weekend of the regular season and Rasmus Larsson’s Green Bay Gamblers are in a dogfight with Ty Henricks Muskegon Lumberjack for second place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference. The team that finishes second gets a first-round bye and entering play this weekend saw Larsson’s Gamblers with a two-point lead over Henrick’s Lumberjacks.

Larsson and his Gamblers were in Madison Wisconsin for the start of a “home and home” series, but the Gamblers let a 3-2 third period lead slip away and would lose in overtime 4-3. Larsson was scoreless but was credited with three shots.

The Gamblers by earning a point were able to remain ahead of the Lumberjacks and will head home on Saturday for their regular season finale. Win and they get the second seed and first round bye. Lose or tie with a Lumberjacks win and they will fall to the third seed.

The Lumberjacks were in Chicago for the start of a two-game series with the Chicago Steel, Ty Henricks would earn a secondary assist on the Lumberjacks first goal as they just whipped the Steel 7-3. The win put the Lumberjacks one point behind the Gamblers for the second playoff seed.

Henricks earned his 13th assist and 30th point of the season (17-13). The Lumberjacks are one point behind the Gamblers for second place so they need the Gamblers to have a loss or only one point while they must win to have any chance at stealing the second seed.

A fun way to end the regular season.

Post-Season Honors

Congrats to Gabe Perreault (East) and Noah Laba (West) as they were named Second team All-Americans by the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Both players had excellent seasons and were very deserving of this honor. Next year expect to see both as first team All-Americans.
