Roobroeck Two Point Night Leads Generals Win

It is the homestretch of the 2024 New York Rangers prospects regular season and the 11 Ranger prospects who took the ice were all getting to play important games. The jockeying for playoff positioning is in full swing and the matchups on Friday night showed,

Dylan Roobroeck and his Oshawa Generals were on the road taking on fellow prospect Bryce McConnell-Barker and his Soo Greyhounds in OHL play. With just about ten games left in the OHL regular season, both the Generals and Greyhounds were fighting to win conference championships and the home ice advantage that went along with it.

In this matchup it would be Roobroeck and his Generals who would come out on top as they rallied to force overtime and then won in overtime 4-3. The win puts the Generals three points out of first place in both the OHL’s East Division and Eastern Conference.

Dylan Roobroeck broke a bit of a mini-slump for him as he had a goal and a secondary assist to lead his Generals. Roobroeck would get his Generals on the scoreboard with his 17th goal of the season as he scored an even strength goal at 16:05 of the first period to tie the game up at 1-1.

Roobroeck took advantage of a McConnell-Barker turnover, took the puck to the net fired a shot that rebounded right back to him and he cashed in the rebound.

The goal is a new career best for the Rangers 2-23 fifth-round draft pick as he tied McConnell-Barker for the prospect lead in goals. In the second period after the Greyhounds had regained the lead, Roobroeck would pick up his second point of the game on a secondary assist on the General’s second goal of the game, also an even-strength goal at 6:44 of the period.

For Roobroeck, the assist was his 36th of the season and the point tied his career best with his 53 point of the season. The 53rd point also is what leads all Ranger prospects in scoring,

For the game Roobroeck going 1-1-2 on three shots and a +2 but he was just 3-4 on his faceoffs as Oshawa went away from using him as their top faceoff man. McConnell-Barker was scoreless on five shots with a -1 and he was 14-11 on faceoffs. His Greyhounds trail Saginaw (host of the 2024 Memorial Cup) by five points for the West Division lead.

Noah Laba (Colorado College hockey)

Noah Laba had a goal in regulation as his 14th-ranked Colorado College Tigers played to a 2- overtime tie with Minnesota-Duluth in NCHC play. Minnesota-Duluth would earn the extra point in the standings by winning the shootout 2-1.

Laba did his best to try to win the game for his Tigers, he scored in the second period to give his team a 2-1 lead but Minnesota-Duluth would score in the third to force a tie and overtime. Laba did score on his shootout attempt as Colorado College is now winless in their last three regulation games.

The Laba goal was the result of Laba turning and firing toward the goal only to have the puck hit off the stick of one of the Minnesota-Duluth defenders into the goal. It counts as Laba’s career best 17th as he makes it a three-way tie for the prospect lead in goals.

The sophomore center would also earn a primary assist on his team’s first goal so the 1-1-2 night on two shots along with a 13-9 night on faceoffs. Laba leads his team in goals (17) and his 17-13-30 also leads his team.

Hugo Ollas (Merrimack Warriors)

Merrimack Warriors goalie Hugo Ollas making his career longest fifth straight start played his best game of the season stopping 46 out of 47 shots to hand 10th-ranked Providence a 2-1 loss in Hockey East play. Ollas who had lost his last two starts was at his best allowing just a third period goal to earn the win.

Providence dominated the game all night long starting with a 15 shot attack in the first period that Ollas stopped each shot. In the second, Providence would fire 17 shots on Ollas who stopped each of those and finally stopping 14 out of 15 in the third for the win.

Ollas improved to 7-10 on the season as his goals against dropped to 2.64 and his save percentage rose to 0.914. For Providence, Jaroslav Chmelar was scoreless on two shots with a -1.

Brody Lamb was scoreless on three shots as his eighth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the 16th-ranked Michigan Wolverines 6-2 in Big Ten play.

Zakary Karpa had the only assist on the overtime winner as his Harvard Crimson defeated archrival Yale 2-1 in overtime in ECAC play. Karpa earned his fourth assist and eighth point on the season off no shots a +1 and a 12-7 faceoff mark.

Victor Mancini was scoreless as his 18th-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks held off Miami (Ohio) 4-3 in NCHC play. Mancini was credited with three shots and served a cross-checking minor.

For the first time since December 2nd, Hank Kempf and his 15th-ranked Cornell Big Red lost in regulation as they fell to Union 3-2 in ECAC play. Big Red had gone ten wins, two ties, two shootout wins, two shootout loss, and one overtime loss before falling to Union, a streak of 17 games. Kempf was scoreless on one shot with a +1.

Drew Fortescue was scoreless as his top-ranked Boston College Eagles defeated the 17th-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats 5-3 in Hockey East play. The Eagles were missing Gabe Perreault for the second straight game as he is listed as “day-to-day” with an “upper-body injury”.

Ty Henricks was scoreless as his Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to the Madison Capitols in 5-4 in USHL play. Henricks was scoreless on one shot.

Rasmus Larsson was scoreless as his Green Bay Gamblers fell to the Chicago Steel in overtime 5-4 in USHL play. Larsson was credited with 1 shot.
