Just five New York Rangers prospects took to the ice on Sunday and while not every one came away with a win, the production wasn’t bad at all. Ok stop us if you heard this one before; Gabe Perreault helped lead his top-ranked Boston College Eagles to a win.
Sunday saw the nation’s leading scorer continue to add to his already solid season totals as Gabe Perreault had both a goal and an assist as Boston College defeated 10th-ranked UMass-Amherst 6-4 in Hockey East action. The win was the fourth straight and 14th in their last 16 games as we are at the point in the season where talking about who will have the number one seed in the NCAA Tournament has started.
What more can be said about Perreault that has not already been said? There is going to be a lot of pressure put on the New York Rangers to try to convince Perreault to leave school after just one year. And it will be hard for Perreault to not look at the money and say yes especially if Boston College does win the NCAAs.
But that is questions for the month of May as on Sunday, Perreault added to his already impressive season totals with another multiple point game. For the 18th time this season Perreault had two or more points as he did with a 1-1-2 game on Sunday.
Perreault got his Sunday going early as he was credited with the primary assist on linemate Ryan Leonard’s 19th goal of the season at 6:44 as Boston College jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Still in the first period and Perreault made it 2-0 with his 14th goal of the season.
With the Eagles on the power play, Perreault was attempting to pass to the other side of the goal crease when the puck was deflected right back to him. And with Perreault almost equal to the goal line, he somehow got the puck into the net over the UMass goalie’s shoulder.

Perreault extends his scoring streak to 15 games (11-17-28) as he improves to 14-34-48 which is one point behind the current Ranger prospect leading scorer. In addition to his 1-1-2 performance, Perreault lead everyone with a game high six shots on goal.
And not to forget teammate Drew Fortescue was scoreless on two shots and a -1. Boston College leads the Hockey East conference with just five games remaining in the regular season.
Ty Henricks saw his game postponed at the start of the third period last night so on Sunday he made sure that he got his rewards. The game’s first star saw Henricks score his 14th goal of the season breaking a 3-3 tie and send his Muskegon Lumberjacks on the way to a 6-3 win over the USA NTDP Under-17 program in USHL play.
It was part of a 1-1-2 performance for the Rangers sixth round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Henricks would get on the scoresheet when he was credited with the only assist on his Lumberjacks third goal, an even strength marker in the second period.
In the third, Henricks broke the 3-3 tie when he fired a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that beat Team USA’s goalie. It was the only shot that Henricks would be credited with in the game and the question is why isn’t he shooting the puck more often? This is a very nice shot he has.

For the first time since December, Henricks has goals in back to back games as he improved his season totals to 14-6-20. Henricks is committed to attend Western Michigan University. WMU plays in the same conference as Noah Laba (Colorado College) and Victor Mancini (Omaha) so the talent level will be high so let us see how he fares.
Bryce McConnell-Barker had a goal in a losing effort as his Soo Greyhounds fell to the Windsor Spitfires 6-4 in OHL play. The Greyhounds were never in this game as the Spitfires jumped out to a 5-0 lead before McConnell-Barker scored in the third period.
It was McConnell-Barker’s 17th goal of the season as he only took one shot and was 10-7 on his faceoffs.

McConnell-Barker now leads the Ranger prospects with his 17th goal of the season as he improves to 17-24-41 on the season.
Maxim Barbashev was scoreless in regulation but he scored a shoot out goal to help his Rimouski Oceanic earn a 4-3 shootout win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix in QMJHL play. Barbashev was the first shooter for his team and he scored and then watched his teams next five shooters miss before teammate Alexandre Blais get the game winner for his team.
It is going to be interesting to see if once the Oceanic are eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs if the Rangers invite Barbashev to Hartford on an ATO contract. Just do not think Barbashev has done enough to earn one but he has 14 games left to prove me wrong.
