Brody Lamb’s Three Points Leads Minnesota

To say that the 2024-2025 New York Rangers prospect season has been unlike any other would be an understatement. Friday night was an almost comical first for the Rangers prospects.

It was a night where one prospect was suspended, one prospect was ejected and one missed his game due to injury. Let all the “Three Prospects Go Into a Bar” jokes begin.

It has been 11 games or 48 days since Brody Lamb last scored a goal, Friday night Lamb broke his goal-less streak with a two-goal night to help lead his fourth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 4-1 win over sixth-ranked Ohio State in a huge Big Ten contest.

Lamb got his night going when he takes a pass right in front of the Ohio State net and puts it in the wide open net to give his Gophers a 1-0 lead. The even-strength goal came at 12:14 of the first period was his 14th on the season.

In the third period with his team already leading 2-1, Lamb scores the dagger goal when he carried the puck all the way around the Ohio State goal and puts in the wrap-around goal for the 3-1 lead. The even-strength goal was Lamb’s 15th coming at 17:34.

His teammates tried to get Lamb a hat trick but he had to settle for a secondary assist on Minnesota’s final goal, this was an empty net goal coming at 18:39. The three point night helped earn Lamb the game’s first star.

It was Lamb’s second three point performance of the season as the 2-1-3 effort came on three shots with a +3. And it was ironic that Lamb broke his streak on a night where he had been demoted from the first line down to the fourth line.

In the bigger picture, Lamb’s efforts helped Minnesota take sole possession of second place in the Big Ten, three points better than Ohio State. The win also pulls Minnesota to within one point of first place Michigan State in the Big Ten standings with three regular season games remaining.

Drew Fortescue was scoreless as second-ranked Boston College defeated Vermont 6-3 in Hockey East action. Fortescue was credited with one shot as the win gave Boston College sole possession of first place in the Hockey East conference with four regular seasons remaining.

And where was Gabe Perreault you ask? Perreault was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct on a cross-checking penalty at 19:57 of the first period.

Perreault who rarely takes any penalties went from eight PIM to 23 on this call. Boston College has clinched home ice into the Hockey East quarterfinals which means they also have a first round bye.

Jackson Dorrington had a secondary assist as his Northeastern Huskies shocked eighth-ranked Boston University 5-1 in Hockey East play. Dorrington improved his season numbers to 2-11-13 with the assist which sets a new career high for points from the junior defenseman.

Dorrington’s Northeastern according to Hockey East latest playoff picture can finish anywhere from third place to last.

Ty Henricks was scoreless as his third-ranked Western Michigan Broncos lost 5-3 to the Arizona Sun Devils in NCHC play. Henricks was credited with two shots as the lost ended a four-game win streak for Western Michigan and allowed Arizona State to pull to within two points of first place Western Michigan.

Western Michigan does hold two games in hand over Arizona State.

Hank Kempf and his Cornell team did a great job defensively but still lost to Clarkson 3-1 in ECAC play. Cornell limited Clarkson to just 11 shots for the entire game.

Zakary Karpa and his Harvard Crimson dropped a 2-1 decision to Union in ECAC play. Karpa was held scoreless on four shots which was tied for the game high.

Nathan Aspinall was scoreless as his Flint Firebirds lost to the North Bay Battalion 4-1 in OHL play. Aspinall was credited with three shots with a -2 and a hooking minor.
