It wasn’t as productive as Friday night, but the games were good matchups for the New York Ranger prospects. The prospects were led by Dylan Roobroeck’s three assist night as for a player who is 6’7, he isn’t clumsy or lumbering as you would expect for his size
Dylan Roobroeck set up three of his Oshawa Generals goals including the overtime game-winner as Oshawa defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-3 in OHL play. One of the Rangers two sixth-round picks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Roobroeck tied a career best with the three helps.
This one was the game-winner coming at 1:11 of overtime to give Oshawa their fourth win of the season. Roobroeck fed linemate Matthew Buckley for the goal off the rush.
Roobroeck also set up Buckley’s second goal of the game which was Oshawa’s second goal; an even strength goal at 18:19 of the second period. The other assist was on Rasmus Kumpulainen’s goal, a power-play goal at 6:30 of the third period which was Oshawa’s third goal.
In addition to going 0-3-3 on the night, Roobroeck was also a +3 while credited with four “dangerous” shots and going 8-14 on faceoffs. Roobroeck improves to 2-8-10 in nine games which leads the Ranger prospects in points.
The Rangers other sixth round selection from the 2023 draft Ty Henricks recorded his third goal of the season as his Muskegon Lumberjacks defeated USA Hockey NTDP 6-3 in USHL action. Henricks scored the Lumberjacks sixth goal of the game, a even-strength goal coming at 7:07 of the third period.
It was Henrick’s third goal of the season as he improves to 3-2-5 after eight games.
Maxim Barbashev had an assist but his Shawinigan Cataractes dropped a 5-3 decision to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in QMJHL play. Barbashev had the only assist on the Cataractes first goal which came in the second period after Chicoutimi had taken a 2-0 lead.
In an offensive-minded league like the QMJHL, it is hard to understand how Barbashev will have so many nights when he will only have one shot like he did in the game. His assist improved his season totals to 6-4-10 after ten games, another number that is headscratching as it is really clear that Barbashev has plenty of offensive talent.
Jaroslav Chmelar had a secondary assist as his 12th-ranked Providence Friars defeated Rensselaer 4-2 in non-conference play. Chmelar was 0-1-1 on three shots with a +1 and two minor penalties as he improved to 3-4-7 after five games.
Chmelar has scored in all five of Providence’s games giving his a career-best scoring streak.
Rasmus Larsson had an assist but his Green Bay Gamblers lost to the Fargo Force 2-1. The assist which was the primary assist was Larsson’s first point in seven games which is another headscratcher.
Larsson came over from Sweden with a resume that said he had a ton of offensive talent but yet he is 1-4-5 after 10 games. Larsson did not even register a single shot.
Noah Laba was scoreless on three shots as his Colorado College Tigers held off the Long Island University Sharks 3-2 in non-conference play. Laba was also 4-8 on his faceoffs as the Tigers’ first-line center.
Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue were both scoreless on one shot each as their third-ranked Boston College Eagles lost to second-ranked Denver University 4-3 in non-conference play. Despite the low stats, this was a pretty good contest between two of college hockey’s better teams.
Brody Lamb was scoreless as his top-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers lost on the road to fifth-ranked North Dakota 2-1 in non-conference play. Lamb did not record a shot and was 7-6 on his faceoffs.
This was another entertaining matchup between two of college hockey’s top teams.
