It was an interesting night for the 11 New York Ranger prospects who hit the ice on Friday evening. From a kid brother beating his older brother to a statement win from an up and coming team to the usual Gabe Perreault scoring, the Ranger prospects came away with a 7-2-1 night led by a goalie who won his second straight start.
It has been a disappointing season for junior goalie Hugo Ollas and his Merrimack Warriors, a seven-game losing streak doomed the team and for Ollas, this season has been a major disappointment. Ollas got the very rare second straight start for the Warriors and for the first time this season Ollas earned back to back wins after a 28 save performance led the Warriors to a 5-2 win over Vermont in Hockey East play.
Ollas got help from a solid defensive performance from his teammates who limited Vermont to just four shots in the first period, he weathered an 18 shot second period where he gave up two goals, and then shut Vermont out in the third stopping all eight shots to earn just his sixth win of the season.
Ollas improved his season totals to 6-8 as he lowered his goals against to 2.70 and improved his save percentage to 0.909. It will take winning the Hockey East playoffs to earn a trip to the NCAAs but there remains a chance for Ollas to salvage his season with a late run.
Noah Laba had an assist as his 16th-ranked Colorado College had their best win of the season whipping second-ranked North Dakota 7-1 in NCHC play. For the third time this season Colorado College defeated North Dakota and this one will greatly help Colorado College as they look to earn an invite to the NCAAs.
Laba was credited with the only assist on Colorado College’s fourth goal as they broke the game open with a three goal second period and never looked back. Laba had one shot with a +3 with a slashing minor and was 9-5 on his faceoffs.
The sophomore forward improved to 15-10-25 as he leads Colorado College in goals (15), points (25), game winning goals (7), and shorthanded goals (2).
Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue each had an assist as their top-ranked Boston College Eagles earned a 5-1 win over 10thy-ranked UMass in Hockey East action. Fortescue had a secondary assist on the game winning goal for his fourth assist of the season and seventh overall point.
Perreault earned the secondary assist on Boston College’s fourth goal as he extended his scoring streak to 14 games (10-16-26) as he improves to 13-33-46 which leads both Boston College and all of Division one men’s hockey.
Rasmus Lawson had a primary assist as his Green Bay Gamblers rallied to earn a 5-4 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede in USHL action. Lawsson’s first point in six games came when he was credited with the primary assist on the Gamblers third goal of the game.
He was a +1 as his season totals improved to 1-9-10 on the season.
Jaroslav Chmelar was scoreless as his 11th-ranked Providence Friars played to a 2-2 overtime tie with second-ranked Boston University in Hockey East play. Providence earned the extra point in the standings by winning the shootout 1-0.
Chmelar was credited with three shots and a -1 as he slowly tries to restart his season after wrist surgery.
Make it lucky number 13 as Hank Kempf’s 12th-ranked Cornell Big Red extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games (10W-0- 2T-1 OL) after shutting out Brown 3-0 in ECAC play. Kempf was scoreless on one shot and a +1.
Cornell last lost in regulation on December 2nd as they hold down second place in the ECAC conference with five games remaining.
Bryce McConnell-Barker was scoreless as his Soo Greyhounds spanked the London Knights 8-2 in OHL action. McConnell-Barker was credited with two shots and was 6-8 on his faceoffs.
Zakary Karpa was scoreless as his Harvard Crimson won for just the fifth time this season after a 2-1 win over St. Lawrence. Karpa was credited with three shots and was 8-7 on his faceoffs.
Dylan Roobroeck had an assist but his kid brother Ryan Roobroeck earn second star honors as Roobroeck’s Oshawa General’s blew a two-goal lead to lose to Ryan’s Niagara IceDogs 4-3 in overtime of OHL play. Roobroeck had the only assist on Oshawa’s second goal which came in the first period.
The Oshawa General’s center was 0-0-1 on five shots with a -1 with a minor penalty for boarding and he was 13-6 on faceoffs. Unfortunately he was outplayed by his kid brother who is a rising prospect set to be eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft.
Keep an eye on Ryan Roobroeck who is a 6’2 195 left wing as he was the second overall pick in last year’s OHL draft. Young Roobroeck is 21-16-37 at just 16 years old.
Brody Lamb had a secondary assist as his seventh-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers got smoked 6-1 by unranked Notre Dame in Big Ten action. The loss pretty much locks Minnesota into third place for the Big Ten tournament.
For Lamb, the assist improves his season totals to 11-11-22 as Lamb remains the third line right-wing for Minnesota.
