Barbashev’s Two Goals Power Rimouski Win

Maxim Barbashev (Shawinigan Cataractes)

A much better night for the 11 New York Ranger prospects who saw action on Saturday night. Still there is room for improvement and for those who are wanting to become New York Rangers, they need to start showing that improvement sooner not later.

Maxim Barbashev had his best night as a Rimouski Oceanic thanks to a two-goal performance as the Oceanic whipped the Gatineau Olympiques 8-0 in QMJHL play. Sorry, there weren’t any video clips that could be used to show his goals. The best that can be offered is from the scorer’s sheet which can be found here.

With the Oceanic already up 3-0 in the second period, Barbashev scored his first goal when linemate Jacob Mathieu found Barbashev coming down the slot and Barbashev fired a shot past the Olympique’s goalie’s right leg for an even-strength goal. The goal 12:37 of the second period was Barbashev’s fifth of the season and made the score 4-0.

In the third with his team up 5-0, Barbashev scored off a breakaway for his second goal of the night and his sixth of the season. Overall Barbashev was 2-0-2 on three shots with a +3 and he was also credited with three hits.

Barbashev improved his season totals to 6-10-16 (4-3-7 since trade to Rimouski).

Gabe Perreault had a 1-1-2 evening as his top-ranked Boston College Eagles defeated the Northeastern Huskies 3-1 in Hockey East action. The win gave the Eagles a split of their weekend series with the Huskies.

In the second period with his team trailing 1-0 and on the power play, Perreault tied the score with his fourth goal of the season off a breakaway as he got behind the Northeastern defense and had little trouble beating their goalie. It was Perreault’s second power-play goal of the season, and it came at 5:45 of the period.

In the third period, Perreault got the secondary assist on the go=ahead goal as linemate Will Smith scored to make it 2-1 as the Eagles would go on to win 3-1. Perreault in going 1-1-2 was credited with five shots for the game while teammate Drew Fortescue was scoreless on three shots.

The two points for Perreault improved his season totals to 4-19-23 which is fifth in the NCAAs and second among freshmen. His 19 assists are second best in the NCAA and best among freshmen.

Bryce McConnell-Barker had a 1-1-2 night to help lead his Soo Greyhounds to a 4-1 win over the Barrie Colts in OHL action. McConnell-Barker scored his Greyhounds fourth goal when he carried the puck into the Colt’s defensive zone then he skated right around a Colts defender then took the puck right to the goal when he just beat him to the short side for the goal.

McConnell-Barker got off to a slow start to his season offensively but since has gone 7-10-17 in his last 15 games to improve his season totals to 10-15-25 for the season. Against the Colts, McConnell-Barker was 1-1-2 on six shots and was 7-7 on his faceoffs.
