Roobroeck’s Two Point Night Not Enough To Save Generals

A quiet Saturday night due to Thanksgiving weekend with just five New York Ranger prospects in action. Offensively there were just two goals, and both can best only be described as accidental. Dylan Roobroeck earned third star honors, but his Oshawa Generals fell to the Ottawa 67s in overtime 3-2 in OHL action.

Roobroeck scored with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime as the puck went in off his chest to tie the game at 2-2. It was Roobroeck’s fifth goal of the season.

No matter how you score it still counts as a goal so give the 6’7 center credit for scoring. Roobroeck also earned the primary assist on the General’s first goal of the game to give him a 1-1-2 night.

Toss in a +2 on two shots while going 10-6 on his faceoffs and Roobroeck still had a good game even in the losing effort. Roobroeck improved to 5-12-17 on the season.

Prior to this season, defenseman Victor Mancini had gone goalless in his first two seasons (70 total games) with the Omaha Mavericks, and it wasn’t until the sixth game of this season before he finally earned his first goal at the NCAA level. Now Mancini has two goals in 82 career games after he scored in his Mavericks game against the Augustana Vikings in their 5-2 non-conference win.

Mancini’s goal can only be described as an “excuse me” goal as he wasn’t even in the offensive zone when he scored. The player they call “Moose” was just outside the blueline when he threw the puck into Augustana’s defensive zone and one bad bounce later it was in the goal for a 1-0 Omaha lead at 4:12 of the first period.

Accident or not it still counts, and Mancini is now 2-3-5 on the season.

It wasn’t the prettiest of efforts by goalie Hugo Ollas, but the junior goalie stopped 19 out of 22 shots to help his Merrimack Warriors earn a 4-3 win over the Bentley Falcons and the “Turkey Leg Classic” championship. Ollas gave up two goals in the first and one in the second but held the Falcons scoreless in the third period for the win.

Ollas improved to 3-3 on the season with a 2.55 goals against and a 0.913 save percentage.

Defenseman Hank Kempf did not record a stat as his 17th-ranked Cornell Big Red defeated fifth-ranked the Boston University Terriers in the annual “Red Hot Hockey” game at Madison Square Garden. Kempf has even less offense to his game than Mancini as he has one career goal in 72 NCAA games.

It is hard to view Kempf as a serious Ranger prospect as the seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft is on the third defensive pair for Cornell.

Forward Ty Henricks broke a seven-game scoreless streak with a secondary assist as his Muskegon Lumberjacks defeated the Madison Capitals 4-3 in overtime in USHL action. Henricks earned his assist on the Lumberjacks first goal as he improved his season totals to 4-3-7.
