Perreault’s Three-Point Night Leads Boston College Win

Gabe Perreault (Boston College)

It has been a while since I have been able to write about the New York Ranger prospects as health issues knocked me on my backside for the last few weeks. I hope this is the only interruption this season but friendly advice, if you feel ill don’t wait to get it checked out.

If it is Friday, then it means it is time for the Gabe Perreault show and the Rangers 2023 first round pick who started the season by going scoreless in his first two games. Since then and including Friday night he has scored in his last eleven straight games including a 1-2-3 performance to lead his top-ranked (tied) Boston College Eagles to a 6-1 win over 18th-ranked Notre Dame in non-conference play.

Got to start off showing off the Perreault passing skills once again, the first-year winger knows where his teammates are always on the ice. In this play, Perreault finds linemate Ryan Leonard for the first of two first period primary assists to give Boston College all the offense they really needed in this one.

The Eagles would lead Notre Dame after one 2-0 and in the second period, fellow Ranger’s prospect defenseman Drew Fortescue would add to the offense with his third goal of the season. Fortescue would add an even-strength goal. Someone has not been scouting Fortescue as if you give him space to skate down from the point then he is going to make you pay as he does, he with a shot just outside the right face-off circle.

The goal would make it 3-0 at the 5:37 mark of the second period. That would lead to Perreault adding his third goal of the season at 9:01 of the period when he cashed in with his team on a two-man advantage for their fourth goal of the game.

Boston College would go on to earn the 6-1 road win as they improved to 10-2-1 on the season. Perreault while extending his scoring streak to 11 games improves to 3-17-20 which leads Boston College and by the numbers is sixth-best overall in the NCAA and second-best among first-year scorers. His 17 assists are tied for first overall in the NCAA.

As for Fortescue, his goal improved his season totals to 3-0-3 and he also has a +9 which is tied for third with Perreault on Boston College.

Earlier this week Maxim Barbashev was traded by the Shawinigan Cataractes to the Rimouski Oceanic in what is a good move for the young forward. In his second game with the Oceanic, Barbashev got to face his former teammates and broke a seven-game scoreless streak with a two-assist night as the Oceanic defeated the Cataractes 6-5 in overtime.

Barbashev set up a shorthanded goal with his first assist and earned a secondary assist with his second. The trade is a better situation for Barbashev as Shawinigan was a terrible team with just one win in their last 12 games while Rimouski is a winning team looking to make a run at the QMJHL playoffs. The assists give Barbashev a stat line of 2-9-11 for the season.

Bryce McConnell-Barker had an assist as his Soo Greyhounds earned an 8-2 win over the Brantford Bulldogs in OHL play. The assist extended McConnell-Barker’s scoring streak to 11 games (4-9-13) as he improved his season totals to 7-14-21.

Dylan Roobroeck scored his fourth goal of the season but that was all the offense his Oshawa Generals would manage as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Ottawa 67s in OHL play. It was Roobroeck’s first goal in eight games as he improved to 4-11-15 on the season.

For a big man, Roobroeck has some surprisingly good eye-hand coordination as he tapped in a pass from the corner for the goal.

Jaroslav Chmelar had a secondary assist, but it was not enough to prevent his ninth-ranked Providence Friars from dropping a 4-3 non-conference loss to 13th-ranked Arizona State. Chmelar is Providence’s leading scorer with a 5-9-14 stat line.

Victor Mancini had a secondary assist as his Omaha Mavericks defeated the Augustana Vikings 2-1 in non-conference play. For Mancini the assist improved his season totals to 1-3-4.

Brody Lamb was scoreless as his eighth-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with the Michigan State Spartans in Big Ten play. Michigan State would earn the extra point in the standings by winning the shootout 1-0.

Ty Henricks was scoreless as his Muskegon Lumberjacks earned a 3-2 win via the shootout over the Madison Capitals in USHL action. Henricks has gone scoreless in six straight games as he is 4-2-6 on the season.

Hugo Ollas was the backup goalie for his Merrimack Warriors as they defeated Army 7-3 in the first game of the “Turkey Leg Classic”. Merrimack will face Bentley in the finals on Saturday with Ollas expected to get the start in goal.

Zakary Karpa was not in the Harvard Crimson lineup as they took on UMass-Amherst on Friday. Karpa left last Saturday’s game against Cornell and did not return. Karpa was injured twice last season, missing 11 games. So far, he is scoreless in five games this season.
